Fighting malnutrition

A warm welcome to Ishawu Iddrisu, new PhD student in ClausLab. Ishawu has been granted a Commonwealth Scholarship to develop a PhD Thesis in the understanding of host-gut microbial metabolic interaction in malnourished children. Gut microbiota (the group of microbes living in the intestines) plays an important role in health and disease, interacting with the host metabolism and using available resources from the diet. Ishawu will especially focus on the impact of dietary iron in cases of malnutrition. For this purpose, he will closely work with Prof Simon Andrews, from the School of Biological Sciences,  and Dr Sandrine Claus, from the School of Chemistry, Food Biosciences and Pharmacy.

Ishawu got his MPhil in ‘Human Nutrition and Dietetics‘ in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, in Ghana, and has just joined the University of Reading. We wish you very good luck in this new adventure!!
